ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Registered Nurse - Surgical Intensive Care/ Stepdown Unit demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaboration strategies with others to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients assigned to the assigned unit where conditions are usually of a critical nature. They will provide care to a wide range of post-surgical patients who are subsequently requiring critical care treatment for any number of reasons. Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Understanding of the basic pathophysiological concepts, treatments, and expected outcomes associated with the critical care environment. Apply the nursing process throughout physiological and psychosocial assessments, which assists in the organizing care interventions related to clinical acuity and needs. Demonstrate proficiency in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning and can be called upon to response to facility wide code responses (e.g. code blue}. Demonstrate the ability to identify an issue, analyze it, develop and implement interventions. Complete initial assessments and reassessments of patient condition and response to treatment. Initiate follow-up as recommended while administering the prescribed therapies using appropriate judgment; evaluation of therapies is pertinent and timely. All other duties as assigned, pertaining to this occupation, to meet the needs of the Agency, Department, Facility, and/or Service. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
