ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major duties include, but are not limited to: Leading and organizing delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning. Using advanced clinical knowledge judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. Functioning as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities. Systematically evaluating current practice, and formulating outcomes for groups of practices and/or organizational processes within an area of expertise. Guiding, developing, and supporting staff from a leadership perspective. Using professional standards of care scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. Delivering and improving holistic care through collaboration strategies with others to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients assigned to the assigned unit where conditions are usually of a critical nature. Possesses the clinical foundation on which the cognitive and practical expertise necessary to care for diverse and complex critical care disease processes can be constructed. He/she is proficient in his/her understanding of the basic pathophysiological concepts, treatments, and expected outcomes associated with the critical care environment. Applies the nursing process throughout physiological and psychosocial assessments, which assists in the organizing care interventions related to clinical acuity and needs. Demonstrates the highest levels of professional standards and ethical behaviors with respect to interpersonal relations, teamwork, and personal responsibility and compliance with institutional protocols and practices. Demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning and can be called upon to respond to facility wide code responses (e.g. code blue). Demonstrates clinical competence and leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. such as patients, their family members/significant others and members of the interdisciplinary team. Self-directed in goal setting and in the management of complex patient situations utilizing the nurse process. Demonstrates the ability to identify and issue, analyze it, develop and implement interventions. Completes initial assessments and reassessments of patient condition and response to treatment. Initiates follow-up as recommended. while administering the prescribed therapies using appropriate judgement; evaluation of therapies is pertinent and timely. Focus on problems, initiate referrals to other disciplines and/or services as appropriate. Accurately documents in the medical record patient findings, assessments, and care provided. Effectively functions independently as the Charge Nurse in an assignment managing the care of a group of patients and caregivers. Demonstrates and/or verbalizes correct responses to emergencies as well as initiates effective action in emergencies. Demonstrates understanding of infection control precautions appropriate for the patient population. Participates/ leads unit-based shared governance, performance improvement and safety initiatives. Pursue an education plan to maintain/ improve knowledge in critical care nursing. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
