<p>The Registered Nurse - Hemodialysis provides, directs, and improves care for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and late-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD).</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The RN - Hemodialysis functions as the primary nurse for ESRD patient panel and serves as key resource assisting patients navigate the healthcare system. Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Collaborate with other disciplines/departments to achieve desired patient outcomes. Functions as primary nurse for ESRD patient panel and serves as key resource assisting patients navigate the healthcare system. Completes documentation for all clinical and technical recordkeeping in the electronic health record and treatment flowsheets in accordance with established policies and procedures. Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems with measurable outcomes. Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Administer prescribed therapies using appropriate judgement; evaluation of therapies is persistent and timely. Initiates referrals to other disciplines and/or services appropriately. Demonstrates correct responses to emergencies, manages complex patient situations and initiates effective action in emergencies. Demonstrates independent clinical skills in the areas of outpatient and acute management of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients and demonstrates understanding of the concepts of care of patients in all stages of chronic renal disease and renal transplantation. Utilize various specialized equipment to deliver treatment to critically ill hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients in special care units. All other duties as assigned, pertaining to this occupation, to meet the needs of the Agency, Department, Facility, and/or Service. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not authorized.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
