Nurse (Clinical/Oncology)

<p>About the Position: This position is located in the Hematology/Oncology/Chemotherapy Research Department at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Provide specialized professional nursing care to critically ill patients with cancer, immune system disorders, and blood disorders along the disease continuum from newly diagnosed through end-of-life care.</p><p>Assist physician as needed in specialized procedures, such as bone marrow, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and accessing ommaya reservoirs. Oversees care delivered by ancillary/allied health personnel. Serves as charge nurse in absence of head nurse.</p><p>Administer and monitor chemotherapy and other medications. Reviews appropriate laboratory values and diagnostic tests and acts accordingly to notify physicians to hold, modify or continue treatment.</p><p>Make prompt, appropriate responses and adjusts/stops infusion and intervenes with emergency drug administration as necessary in response to rapidly changing patient conditions.</p><p>Provide independent/assessment based comprehensive nursing without specific instructions to address underlying co-morbidity affecting treatment such as cardiac/pulmonary conditions, renal dysfunction and diabetes, chemotherapy or treatment regimen.</p><h3>Education</h3>See qualification section for education requirements.
