ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This position is under the auspices of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service in the Occupational Therapy Department at Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System(CAVHCS). The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and patient care areas involved with Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The incumbent has full responsibility of supervision of Occupational Therapists, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA); Level I & II fieldwork students, Volunteers; administrative management of diverse Occupational Therapy programs; providing leadership and direction for the OT section in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS). This includes a broad range of OT services at several separate campuses, one over a 100-mile radius. Facilities include multiple sites i.e., East/West campuses, Community Living Center, CBOC FT. Rucker, CBOC -FT Benning, MVAC, and Home- Based Primary Care serving inpatients and outpatients. Duties included but not limited to: Responsible for development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effectiveness of departmental strategic planning, ensuring alliance with VA and VHA. Completes performance appraisals and disciplinary actions, monitors clinical privileges, monitors and approves leave and reviews therapists work for timeliness. Responsible for other duties as assigned including attending IDT meetings, serving on patient care committees, attending work groups and meetings to meet standards of care as identified by the facility and PM&RS service. Supervises, motivates, and manages effectively a diverse clinical staff applicable to a service-level department in a large, complex, or multi-division facility. Plans and establishes the work schedules and makes assignments for the therapy staff in accordance with the approved Scope of Practice, discipline practice standards and skill levels. Serves as contact for equipment requests; priorities, orders all equipment for the department; approves departmental travel and tuition requests as first line supervisor. Responsible for performing clinical hours within the department of Occupational therapy.
