ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>James A Haley Veterans hospital and clinics has a opening for a Registered nurse within our Urology Specialty Clinic. This position reports directly to our nurse manager within our Nursing Perioperative department.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties listed but not limited to: Demonstrates the ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments and the goal of care for the patient. Seeks guidance on how to improve care provided to patients and families. Delegates elements of care to the appropriate individual based on assessed needs, conditions, and patient safety. The RN brings principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills. The RN provides patient care and care coordination, assists with minor office procedures, follows the Medical Center Policies (MCPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), actively participates in the time-out process, and follows the current Hospital National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). The RN will advocate for health promotion and provide health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. The Urology Specialty Clinic RN provides pre and post-procedural care, including (but not limited to) the nursing assessment of patients, consent, and H&P validations, the starting of intravenous fluids including venipuncture, assisting with peripheral nerve blocks, assuring all lab work and other pre-procedural testing is completed and communicated to team members, confirms procedure sites are prepared and marked, and the administration of medications as ordered. Provides clear and concise teaching and reviews pre and post-procedure instructions with the patients and families using written and verbal communication. The Urology Specialty Clinic RN assess the patient after the clinic procedures for side effects from the procedure or medications and is responsible for ensuring comprehensive documentation of all phases of care and that the electronic health record is timely, complete, and accurate. During minor clinic procedures, the Urology Specialty RN partners with the scrub personnel to establish and maintain a sterile field. Safeguard the patient from injury caused by using lasers, electrosurgical equipment, thermal sources, positioning devices, or extraneous objects.
