ABOUT THIS ROLE

<p>The Registered Nurse - Suicide Prevention Coordinator provides comprehensive nursing care to patients at risk of suicide that may have co-morbid medical and mental health conditions. They collaborate with inpatient and outpatient health care professionals to provide direct and indirect patient management for patients at risk of suicide.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Registered Nurse - Suicide Prevention Coordinator demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious, deliberate planning and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex patient situations. Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Consider all characteristics of the individual, including gender and role identification, age, life stage, state of health, race, culture, socio-economic status, values and beliefs in order to assist each patient with the improvement of his/her health status to the maximum potential. Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients at risk of suicide that may have comorbid medical and mental health conditions. Provide direct and indirect patient management for patients at risk of suicide including but not limited to implementation of alerts for high -risk patients and developing safety plans. Use the nursing process to promote health and achievement of treatment goals including collaborating with the multidisciplinary team. Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to nursing staff, administrative staff, and other health care providers in the care of patients at risk of suicide. Identify an issue, analyze it, and develop and implement interventions. Provide care in a non-judgmental, nondiscriminatory manner that is sensitive to the adult or elderly patient and family's diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights. Initiates referrals to other disciplines and/or services as appropriate. All other duties as assigned, pertaining to this occupation, to meet the needs of the Agency, Department, Facility, and/or Service. Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm. Telework: May be available. Telework ad-hoc may be approved based on Agency policy. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not authorized.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation. Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment. Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
