ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Falls Prevention Program Manager (PM) Registered Nurse (RN) demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Demonstrates proficiency in decision-making and using the nursing process for complex situations that effect performance outcomes at the point of care. The RN is responsible to their Chief Nurse.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties include but not limited to the following: Demonstrates leadership and collaboration by using the group process to solve problems. Demonstrates critical thinking with efficiency and accuracy in assessing and managing situations. Applies the nursing process to systems or processes to improve care. Supports and enhances client self-determination, while serving as a resource for clients and staff in resolving ethical issues. Identifies and assesses resource utilization and safety issues taking appropriate action. Responsible for producing and disseminating an evidenced-based, cost-effective Fall Prevention Program based upon the patient population. Makes fall prevention equipment and supply recommendations. Coaches unit managers and their staff on fall prevention strategies, serving as a preceptor and/or mentor. Establishes and maintains a facility Fall Prevention policy and fall clinical practice guidelines based on evidence. Develops falls prevention education, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. Develops patient/caregiver education programs for fall and injury prevention. Oversees and manages the local falls database. Formulates trends and providing the trends at least annually to the Associate Director of Patient Care Service (ADPCS). Establishes benchmarks. Assists and leads Fall Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and annual fall prevention program aggregates. Initiates and participates in quality improvement activities that result in improved outcomes. Submits Fall Program reports, such as annual aggregate studies, Patient Safety Assessment Tool (PSATs), or RCAs, as required. Works in collaboration with the Patient Safety Managers (PSMs) and the staff to build a culture of safety. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
