Registered Nurse (Blind Rehabilitation) - EDRP Authorized

<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>CTVHCS is in the process of making a cultural change, shifting from a disease-focused approach to a health and wellbeing approach, in order to implement the Whole Health System of Care. This is a VA-wide initiative to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to improve healthcare delivery at all stages of Veteran care. This entails moving from an episodic, "siloed" approach to an interdisciplinary, holistic approach, emphasizing self-care in the larger context of well-being. All staff in this facility will be part of this process, shifting the focus from the question, "What's the matter with you?" to the question, "What matters to you, and how can we help you live your best life?" This strategy also involves integrating a full range of conventional approaches with Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) approaches in order to optimize lifelong health and well-being, as defined by the Veteran, rather than narrowly focusing on disease management. The Blind Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (RN) provides and leads the provision of competent, evidence-based care, the psychiatric mental health (MH) nurse independently provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care, milieu management, and maintains self awareness while caring for patients living with MH conditions. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Facilitate shift reports, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups. Use therapeutic communication techniques, de-escalation methods, and recovery-oriented language. Actively participate in MH interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and MH Environment of Care rounds Actively participate in MH interdisciplinary treatment team, MH Environment of Care rounds, assumes team lead for psychiatric emergencies, reports and assists in resolving safety concerns, and documents nursing assessments, nursing plan of care, patient safety observations, and environmental safety rounds according to facility policy. Maintain professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient. Provide oversight of licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants, as appropriate for the setting. Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Provide peers with informal, constructive feedback for improvement. Foster a safe and supportive environment that promotes professional development of healthcare professionals. Contribute professional nursing perspectives in discussions with the MH interdisciplinary team Support colleagues through MH knowledge sharing to promote safe, quality nursing care. Share MH educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers.
