<p>The Nurse Manager (NM) for Acute Care/Med-Surg is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards The duties and responsibilities for the Nurse Manager for Acute Care/Med-Surg position include but are not limited to the following: Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. Assumes an appropriate degree of responsibility regarding administrative and clinical issues, such as staff coverage, granting leave, and patient and/or staff issues. Manages the scheduling of staff and is responsible for the hiring of new staff to maintain their unit's Staffing Methodology recommendations. Provides leadership crosses services and/or discipline lines as appropriate and works closely with the other Inpatient Nurse Managers. Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and practices that support high-quality healthcare delivery. Ensures policies are followed by Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Nursing Assistants (NA), and Health Care Technicians (HT) within direct care inpatient unit. Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence based cutting-edge programs/processes. Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. Equips staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Cultivates alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Promotes an inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organizations vision and mission. Consults and collaborates with VHA Program Offices, Veterans Integrated Services Networks (VISN) staff, facility leadership teams, nurse executives, professional organizations, consumer groups, and stakeholders to address complex healthcare delivery and nursing practice issues for the VA North Texas Health Care System. Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP). Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0730 - 1600 Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
