Physician - Orthopedic Surgery

<p>VA Black Hills is seeking an Intermittent Orthopedic Surgeon to care for Veterans within the Surgical Care Service Line in Fort Meade, SD.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Diagnoses and treats all the common orthopedic surgical conditions, including surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system. Participates in afterhours call schedule and possesses the ability to respond promptly in emergent situations. Responsible for seeing patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans. Provides ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment. Adheres to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion. Ensures the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission, and VA Central Office performance measure standards. Mentors, trains, and provide supervision for residents and mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required. Performs other directly related duties as required. Upon completion of your probationary period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
