Qualified applicants will be considered and referred every 2 weeks until filled.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This position is for a full-time non-invasive and non-interventional cardiologist. The Cardiologist will be responsible for consultative services and developing treatment plans for the management of Veterans in outpatient, inpatient, Community Living Center and emergency department settings. The incumbent will provide evaluations and treatment recommendations regarding patients with cardiovascular conditions. The incumbent should have strong interpersonal skills to establish professional working relationships with other clinicians and staff throughout the facility and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Duties will include, but are not limited to: Interpretation of ECGs, Holter and event monitor recordings and transthoracic echocardiograms. Perform and interpret transesophageal echocardiograms Perform treadmill, pharmacologic, nuclear and echocardiograph stress tests. Be available for all urgent assessments and consultations as part of the patient care team. Perform Cardioversion procedures. Reviewing pacemaker/AICD transmissions and adjusting settings accordingly. Preferred Experience - Board certification and minimum 2-3 years experience.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
