<p>The Chief of Staff also known as the Chief Medical Officer functions as a key member of the Executive Leadership team, actively participating in the development of overall management objectives and philosophies necessary for the attainment of optimum efficiency in providing health care to our Veteran population. In addition to making clinical decisions, COS is actively involved in the management of resources for this facility. Promotes the development of health care professionals through counseling, mentoring, teaching and encouraging self-assessment. Monitors and promotes compliance with VA regulations and professional standards and ethical conduct, to include all Sexual Harassment, EEO, Diversity and Inclusion, No FEAR, and Whistleblower Rights Laws, Regulations, Policies and Procedures. Works to ensure that facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and Network. Takes an active role as a management team member, providing advice and counsel in defining and accomplishing the facility's mission and goals. Develops and maintains a good working relationship with affiliated medical school(s) and programs associated with the Medical Center; recruiting certified licensed professional staff, who are graduates of approved medical schools and ensures that appropriate staff practitioners are credentialed and privileged in accordance with VA and The Joint Commission (TJC) requirements. Monitors and ensures medical staff compliance with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, VA facility policies, pertinent TJC standards and other appropriate regulations and creates an environment of system oriented continuous quality improvement, within which programs and quality of care effectiveness are evaluated. Leads and guides clinical staff to provide, quality health care to each veteran in an organized and competent manner; and embrace VHA's core values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence, in the provision of these duties. COS functions in a collaborative partnership with the Medical Center Director, Associate Director, Associate Director for Patient Care Services (Nurse Executive), Executive Office of High Reliability, and the Assistant Director in carrying out the leadership/management responsibilities and operations of the medical center, healthcare center facilities and community-based outpatient clinic. Work Schedule: 8am-4:30pm</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). You may be required to serve a probationary period. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
