Learn more</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. Education Debt Reduction Program: Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. EDRP Authorized: Contact vhaedrpprogramsupport@va.gov, the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System (VANWIHCS) seeks a full time physician assistant to provide primary care services to Veterans who are homeless and at risk of homelessness. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Responsible for providing primary care to patients at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System, managing both scheduled and unscheduled outpatient visits. Obtain pertinent medical and psycho-social history including patient profile, chief complaint, history of present illness, past medical history, social history, and review of body systems. Perform a physical examination as pertinent, modifying the examination for the nature of the complaint or problem, age/sex of patient and physical condition of patient. Determine patient's mental status (i.e., level of consciousness, orientation, mood, etc.). Order and interpret laboratory, x-ray, diagnostic and/or treatment studies appropriate for complaint, age, race, sex, and physical condition of the patient. Obtain the following specimens for laboratory evaluation. Integral member of the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), coordinating care with nursing, clerical, pharmacy, social work, dietetics, and more. Participation in daily team huddles and systems redesign projects is required. May manage a patient panel per the Primary Care Management Model (PCMM) guidelines, with panel size determined by PCP FTE, support staff, and room availability, specific to each provider. Responsible for supervising or collaborating with licensed independent practitioners (e.g., APRN, PA). Expected to provide clinical oversight and participate in peer reviews through periodic chart reviews, as mandated by Medical Staff Bylaws. Act as a surrogate for absent Primary Care Providers, including the review of CPRS view alerts. Regularly attend primary care staff, departmental, and medical staff meetings. Ensure timely documentation of notes and encounter forms per facility policy; complete administrative work promptly. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: Monday -Friday 8:00am -4:30pm, no weekends</p><h3>Requirements</h3>All qualified candidates encouraged to apply. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
