<p>The Physical Therapist is assigned to the Physical Therapy Department within Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) in the Washington, DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center network at Charlotte Hall, MD. The incumbent works as a therapist at the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in the Washington DC network.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties to include but not limited to: Provision of Clinical Care: Responsible for independently providing assessment and treatment interventions for patients received through healthcare provider referrals and patient self-referrals Performs evaluations and examinations of individuals who have or may develop impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions related to conditions of the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and/or integumentary systems while considering the effects attributable to unique personal and environmental factors. Interprets findings from examination, diagnostic studies/medical tests and, during evaluation, select appropriate clinical tests and measures, and then integrate findings into the physical therapy plan of care for the full range of patient populations. Establishes a diagnosis within the scope of physical therapy and identify the appropriate intervention to treat and/or refer to another provider for further consultation when needed. Selects appropriate equipment needed to substitute for loss of function or to substitute for limited function of individuals they treat. Demonstrates the teaching skills required to provide education to patients, family members, caregivers, employees, students, and coworkers. Documentation Performs competent written documentation of initial examinations, progress notes, and discharge summaries in compliance with medical center and APTA standards in a timely manner. Demonstrates advanced competency in knowledge of electronic documentation and computer skills. Enters consults to Prosthetics service for rehabilitation equipment in accordance with PM&RS and medical center policies. Engages in regular peer chart reviews issued by Supervisor Reviews and co-signs note written by the PTA, as applicable Administrative Responsibilities: Using the computer system for storing and retrieving electronic documents and files, transmitting and receiving e-mail, activating printers, requesting leave, and accessing the Electronic Health Record (EHR) GS-12 Education Duties: Acts as Clinical Instructor for affiliating schools for physical therapy. Educates other facility personnel in the scope of PM&RS services and programs involving a variety of health care specialties.
