ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>* Recruitment or Relocation incentive may be authorized for eligible, highly qualified candidates! * The Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Program Manager (SPHM) works in Patient Care Services and manages the program requirements of the Veterans Health Administration. The incumbent leads and implements the VHA SPHM program and executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience and a depth of understanding of how to manage complex situations holistically.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties include but are not limited to: Relates with customers, families, and the community, as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. Contributes ideas and recommendations for establishing standards of care, policies, and objectives for enhancing the healthcare system. Investigates employee and patient safety incidents related to patient handling providing recommendations and tracking these injuries by unit, area, hospital-wide, and across the continuum. Participates in planning, design, and construction projects so that all design projects in spaces Veterans use include VA medical facility SPHM Manager input. Selects and coordinates SPHM-related equipment and supplies coordinating with appropriate stakeholders across the continuum. Communicates with transparency, clarity, and integrity while providing opportunities and resources for the VA facility to schedule providing employees with SPHM education, and training, and maintain competence for all personnel who are directly involved with handling and mobility of Veterans. Trains SPHM peer leaders at least once per year, providing training resources and references and periodic opportunities for interaction. Monitors that SPHM peer leaders are provided with time to check equipment and train employees. Establishes and maintains highly effective relationships at all levels of the organization to collaborate with VA medical facility stakeholders on resource availability for programmatic support and evaluates staffing needs by submitting equivalency annually. Reports annually on performance metrics requested by the national SPHM program through a national SPHM survey. Provides care and/or services appropriate to the age of the patients being served, and which is appropriate to the cognitive; emotional, and chronological maturation of the patient. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
