ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This position is located at the York County VA Community Clinic (VACC) in York, PA.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse (RN), the licensed practical nurse (LPN) functions as a member of the nursing team and assists the RN in the care of patients in acute, subacute, or chronic states of illness. The York LPN is responsible for the evidence-based care of a group of patients as follows: Supports diagnostic procedures - Performing support duties for complex diagnostic tests and specialized practices or procedures. Prepare patient, assist with diagnostic examinations, prepare specimens, prepare and passing instruments, monitor the patient's condition before, during, and after the procedure, and perform phlebotomy. Assists with technical nursing treatments - Nurses must master equipment used to stabilize and monitor patients, including EKG machines, oxygen tanks, nasal cannula tubing, blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeter, ear flushes, administer a variety of injections in a timely manner, and ensure the procedure is documented. Provides care that incorporates the age, gender, culture, and learning needs of patients requiring basic planning and evaluation of care - Incorporates cultural sensitivity into the care of all Veterans, being cognizant of the diverse population of Veterans from all adult ages, eras, and conflicts. Apply infection control measures appropriately in delivering care - Practices hand hygiene per policy, using hand sanitizers, good hand washing, donning gloves for procedures, as appropriate; cleaning equipment and exam tables and chairs with Cavi-wipes; ensures masks are worn by Veteran when droplet precautions are warranted. Communicates with team members regarding patient care - Contributes to the interdisciplinary team (IDT) in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's treatment and discharge plan. Collaborates with members of other services regarding changes in patient's condition, laboratory results, responses to treatment plan, and other pertinent parameters of care. Participants in Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) huddles with provider, PACT RN, and clerk on regular basis. Keeps provider on schedule with clinic appointments. Adhere to ethical and principles and standards in delivering care - The nurse promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient. Protects all patient information by securing documents and protecting computer screens from the view of others. Practices with respect for autonomy of the Veteran, exercising fairness, truthfulness, and justice. Enter information into patients' records/charts - Triage notes include vital signs, reminders, and patient input/responses. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Upon completion of your trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.<h3>Education</h3>Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Exceptions include: Health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure. VHA employees who were converted to appointments under 38 U.S.C. 7401(3) in implementation of Public Law 98-160, enacted November 21, 1983, and for VHA employees converted to appointments under 38 U.S.C. 7405 in implementation of Public Law 99-576, enacted October 28, 1986; and for their future personnel actions under this authority. The waiver will not apply to persons appointed under 38 U.S.C. 7401(3) or 7405 after these conversions. Individuals granted a license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school.
