ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>About the Position: This position is organizationally assigned to Maternal-Child-Infant Nursing, Directorate of Nursing Services, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The Mother Baby Unit is responsible for rendering highly specialized antepartum and postpartum care to the obstetrical patient and newborn. The Complicated Obstetric & GYN Surgical Unit (4E) is responsible for rendering highly specialized antepartum and postpartum care to the obstetrical patient. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Provide highly specialized nursing care to the complicated obstetrical patients and newborns, and to provide care to the routine obstetrical patient and infant.</p><p>Utilize advanced nursing assessment skills to identify difficult patient care problems, to formulate complex plans to meet patient care needs, and to continually revise goals and objectives according to changes in maternal/fetal/newborn status.</p><p>Provide highly specialized nursing care to the complicated and routine postpartum obstetrical patient and newborn as well as the GYN medical/surgical patient.</p><p>Administer and monitor oxygen therapy and utilize intensive pulmonary care techniques as needed.</p><p>Respond decisively to changes in maternal/fetal/newborn conditions, providing immediate and appropriate measures according to Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) protocols.</p><p>Assist in the direction and coordination of unit Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, and NRP efforts.</p><p>Operate and monitor the performance of sophisticated equipment used in the care of complicated obstetrical patients, including, but not limited to, electronic fetal monitors, EKG machines, infant resuscitation equipment, and infant warmers.</p><h3>Education</h3>FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
