<p>The VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) is a Level 1a major interdisciplinary teaching healthcare system, offering a variety of Inpatient and Outpatient services to Veterans at the medical center in La Jolla and at the six Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in Chula Vista, Escondido, Imperial Valley, Kearny Mesa, Oceanside, Sorrento Valley, and Rio Clinic. The VASDHS provides high quality care with advanced technologies and a compassionate service to Veterans.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit Nurse II Registered Nurse assumes the following roles and responsibilities: As a Biotherapy provider, also known as biodegradable or immunotherapy, the nurse administers agents such as monoclonal antibodies (i.e., Rituximab) and immunoglobulin (i.e., IgG) which use the body's immune system to fight cancer. As a Chemotherapy provider, certified by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), the nurse administers chemotherapy to cancer patients in various stages of their disease (Only for the Medical Surgical Telemetry Oncology Unit). This position requires flexibility in schedule and assignment, as this is a 24/7 facility. Competent in reading and interpreting ECG strips; and identifying abnormal and lethal rhythm. Demonstrate grade appropriate and consistent critical thinking skills. Performs ongoing assessment of patient condition and response to treatment. Able to communicate and initiates referrals to other disciplines and/or services as appropriate. The nurse can manage the problem safely and effectively, recognizing his/her scope of practice. Effectively functions as the charge nurse, team leader, or in other leadership role that guides and directs others who provide patient care. Organizes and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, assisting team members as necessary. Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions. Demonstrate organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion. Participates as a member or assumes a leadership role on formal service level committees, councils, or performance improvement teams. Assesses the patient's learning needs, learning preference, and readiness to learn. Modifies teaching approach based on knowledge of human behavior, motivations, and reactions to situations. Assists the UPC, and the NM in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the Unit Score Card, addressing process related to the feedback from All Employee Survey. Proactively makes leadership choices to prioritize Veteran-Centered needs, operate within allocated resources and takes the initiative to find solutions to operational challenges. Maintains knowledge and understanding of Joint Commission requirements and ensures compliance with VA, VHA Directives, and OSHA standards. Competent in proper use and care for orthopedic equipment when caring for orthopedic patients. Properly care for patients with airborne isolation infections such as COVID+ (5E) or tuberculosis. Assumes the position as a resource nurse and/or a charge nurse. Performs all other duties as assigned.
