<p>The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Specialty Clinics will provide safe, routine care to Veterans at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS; within both inpatient and outpatient units. The primary responsibility of the LPN is to provide quality care for the Veteran, while providing exceptional customer service.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The staff Licensed Practical Nurse will provide safe, routine care to Veterans within both inpatient and outpatient units at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as this is a 24/7 hospital. The duties of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Specialty Clinics may include, but are not limited to: a. Patient Care/Care Planning 1. Provides a limited range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems .2. Works under the supervision of an RN or PROVIDER. 3. Recognizes the need for emergency measures when indicated, promptly seek the assistance of the RN or PROVIDER. 4. Collects data relevant to patient's learning needs, learning preference and readiness to learn. 5. Prevents urgent care and/or unplanned visits based on patient centered care, with early intervention. 6. Assists in monitoring for any evidence of abuse/neglect and demonstrates knowledge of the abuse reporting process. 7. Encourages patient to verbalize concerns and fears regarding end-of- life issues and losses. 8. Implements interventions to maintain skin integrity and prevent skin breakdown. 9. Adapts the environment to promote comfort and maximal functioning, self- care and independence. 10. Maintains safe and therapeutic environment by providing one-on- one observation for behavioral health patients as directed by the Provider. 11. Administers prescribed therapies using appropriate judgment and in and in accordance with medical center and Ambulatory Care policies and procedures: Provides care to patients with various prosthetic devices Perform phlebotomy procedures Perform medication reconciliation Bladder scan-pre and post void residuals b. Interpersonal Skills/Customer Service 1. Demonstrates courtesy, respect, and dignity to patients, families and internal/external customers. Provides timely access to health care. 2. Serves as a member of a Specialty team and interacts in an appropriate manner with patients, family members, professional and other supportive personnel. 3. Utilizes VA Core Values in the performance and delivery of care to patients, families and co-workers. 4. Meets patients' diverse needs based on age, culture, ethnic, spiritual and war conflict group. 5. Assists team-let to meet physical comfort needs and provide support to meet emotional needs. 6. Identifies verbal and non-verbal communication skills. 7. Communicates effectively and appropriately when transferring patients to different levels of care - ISBAR handoffs. 8. Serves as a mediator for patient, families and colleagues to improve the quality of communication and interactions. 9. Supports to other Specialty team members, (10) and interdisciplinary teamwork to resolve issues. 11. Communicates information to Nurse Manager/designee in a timely manner regarding assigned patients throughout tour of duty. 12. Collaborates with co-workers in completion of workload. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-06. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-03 to GS-06. Physical Requirements: Physical aspects associated with work required of this assignment are typical for the occupation, see Duties section for essential job duties of the position. May require standing, lifting, carrying, sitting, stooping, bending, puling, and pushing. May be required to wear personal protective equipment and undergo annual TB screening or testing as conditions of employment. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office/clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions; the area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. However, the work environment requires someone with the ability to handle several tasks at once in sometimes stressful situations.
