ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) 5 is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) also performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The assignment involves administering advanced and skilled complex patient care, utilizing specialized equipment. LPNs administer care and apply nursing intervention techniques to patients with a wide range of disease entities. The incumbent must be able to promptly and accurately detect, identify, and report significant changes and/or responses to treatments or unusual circumstances using the facility recommended communication tool to improve patient safety and the transfer of critical information. Contacts are with patients, families, and all members of all health care disciplines in the geriatrics or dementia areas of the medical center. The purpose of the contacts is to provide quality and continuity of nursing care in the geriatric or dementia care setting. The setting demands providing care, emotional support, and instruction for the patient and family. An overall supportive environment should be provided to aid in the patient's recovery. The employee is involved in long periods of physical activity in the geriatric and dementia areas, including standing, bending, lifting, stooping, stretching and the pushing of beds, stretchers, wheelchairs and other equipment. Nursing care duties are performed in the geriatric area/ Community Living Center(s) (CLCs). The assignment involves contact with and use of specialized equipment. LPNs are expected to practice safe work habits. The incumbent is exposed to stressful situations on a daily basis due to unpredictable conditions and occasionally unpredictable resident behavior within the CLC neighborhoods. LPNs will be exposed to infectious diseases and handling of contaminated and hazardous waste materials (soiled dressing, contaminated needles, syringes, suctioning and testing equipment, etc.) and use of isolation techniques. Work Schedule: 7pm thru 730am, night shift Functional Statement #: 58713F</p><h3>Requirements</h3>You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
