<p>The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to- day function of the Respiratory Therapy department including but not limited to staffing, workload, competency, equipment & stock, etc. while ensuring regulatory guidelines are met. This position is in the Pulmonary Section of the Medical Service in the Robley Rex VA Medical Center.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor will ensure the day-to-day function of the Respiratory Therapy Department. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Manage and supervise the Respiratory Therapy Department which includes, at a minimum, assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff. Resolving problems which may interfere with patient examination or treatment. Evaluating new procedures, products, and equipment. Reviewing and recommending new and emerging procedures. Providing instruction and training to new staff. Interviewing candidates for positions, recommending selections, advancements, and promotions. Taking disciplinary action when necessary; providing guidance in more complex and non­standard cases. Conduct audits of inpatient and outpatient records to ensure appropriate documentation of plan of care, assessments, therapy, procedures, clinical outcomes, and patient safety. Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs. Assist in determining quality assurance and compliance data to be collected. Skill to collect and review relevant clinical data and make recommendations regarding changes in therapy based on patient observation and relevant data. Performance with emergency and acute Respiratory Care procedures in both the inpatient and outpatient setting in accordance with departmental guidelines, protocols, and industry standards. Attend professional meetings and development events, when needed. Monitor the technical and clinical competence of all personnel working in the department through appropriate training.
