Supervisory Physician - Assistant Chief Imaging Service

Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Assistant Chief of Imaging Service at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) carries both clinical and administrative responsibilities. This position shares responsibility for the overall operation and performance of the Imaging Service and reports directly to the Chief of Imaging. The Assistant Chief is a supervisory leader, with supervisory duties assigned by the Chief of Imaging. Direct reports will include radiologists and may also include mid-level providers and other radiology staff. Clinically, the Assistant Chief serves as a diagnostic radiologist, providing a full range of image interpretation, image-guided procedures, and patient care services within Diagnostic Radiology, and may also bring additional subspecialty expertise VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. The Assistant Chief of Imaging Service will work with the Chief of Imaging Service to supervise on-board personnel, evaluate prospective new hires, oversee compliance with all applicable regulations, and assist the Chief in addressing patient and staff complaints, disciplinary actions, credentialing and peer-review issues, and inquiries and investigations from Congress, the White House, VA Central Office, and national investigative bodies. Formulate and implement general policies, procedures, standards, and goals and objectives for the Radiology Service that are consistent with, and supportive of, the mission of the VASNHS and VISN21. Interpret imaging exams including relevant exam comparison and correlation with clinical information in CPRS. Support patient care services with reports timely to the care being delivered with the method of communication appropriate to the level of clinical importance or acuity. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: review exam requests for appropriateness, prescribe exam protocols, provide oversight of technical image quality, provide clinical oversight of medication administration, provide oversight and serve as resource for radiation and MRI safety, provide oversight and serve as resource for infection control practices. Integrate resources to provide current, optimal care: consult colleagues, research literature, maintain continuing education and other sources of current practice. Support academic affiliations in technologist, radiologic assistant, medical student, resident and other teaching programs that involve the Imaging Service. Provide clinical experience, cognitive development, and other aspects of effective teaching.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
