ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Physical Therapist Supervisor is assigned to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) at the Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fayetteville NC, which is a Complexity Level lc facility. This position is responsible for the supervision, administrative management, and direction of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation therapist section of the PM&R Department.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Supervisory Physical Therapist is required to provide overall clinical supervision that assures the proper coordination and delivery of care within the service and the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. The Supervisory Physical Therapist spends 80% percent of their day as manager, supervisor, and director of a multi-faceted therapy program spanning inpatient acute and CLC environments as well as the outpatient environment within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. The Supervisory Physical Therapist provides an advanced knowledge & evidence-based approach in the supervision of key clinical and training programs, including the overall technical oversight of assigned therapists whom he/she administratively supervises. He/she possesses a knowledge base that allows him/her to function as an independent practitioner in a Direct Access environment. He/she is capable of identifying medical conditions that require further evaluation and treatment that are outside of his/her scope of practice. He/she will exhibit knowledge of human resources administration including such functions as the ability to interview and select qualified applicants, monitor and evaluate performance, complete required mid-year and annual performance appraisals and maintain effective labor management relations within the scope of responsibility. The Supervisory Therapist is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures to address focused clinical needs and the overall services delivered and provided within the service. Duties include, but are not limited to: Supervises and assigns work to GS-12 PTs, GS-12 OTs, GS-11 RTs, GS-8 therapy assistants, aides, trainees, and volunteers in the delivery and/or support of treatment and education of patients and families. Triages all consults for appropriateness and completeness prior to scheduling. Manages the day-to-day scheduling into the Direct Access Wheelchair Clinic. Coordinates with other services in the area of therapy treatment, treatment scheduling, and delivery of care. Performs all other duties/activities of a staff therapist including evaluation and treatment of patients. Develops and plans educational programs to include patient, family, and professional personnel. Develops, plans, and implements monitors of quality of care (QM) with respect to therapy services as part of the comprehensive health care services delivered to the patients within the medical center. Serves as Acting Chief of PM&RS in the absence of the PM&RS Chief. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Telework: Ad-Hoc Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
