<p>The incumbent is assigned to the Imaging department of St. Cloud VA Health Care System (HCS) and reports to the Supervisory Chief Technologist. The Imaging Department is part of the Diagnostics Integrated Clinical Community (ICC) and is a branch of the Chief of Staff office. The incumbent assists the Supervisory Chief Tech in oversight and management of the Imaging service line for a wide range of comprehensive and complex diagnostic imaging services.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: - Demonstrates leadership in interpreting and supporting VISN and St. Cloud VAHCS mission, vision, and values while operating in accordance with directives and policies, federal professional and accrediting agencies external to VHA, including Joint Commission and ACR recommendations. - Assists with developing long and short term goals and objectives for the Imaging service line that improve performance and contribute to the success of the organization. - Incumbent assists in managing the department within assigned budget and reports changes or needs to service line leadership. Utilizes resources effectively to provide customer services and optimal access. - Participates in and implements facility strategic planning initiatives for the Imaging department as determined by service line and facility leadership. - Assists with developing and implementing process improvements or changes to meet local, VISN, and national benchmarks and metrics. Aggregates and analyzes data on department operational functions. - Participates in quality performance/improvement activities to ensure compliance with Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and VHA standards regarding radiology quality assurance, safety, and related technical functions. - Uses advanced imaging knowledge to evaluate program effectiveness and guide short and long-range goals operational planning. Advises service line leadership on imaging policies, operations, and program implementation. Evaluates, develops, reviews, and updates MCPs and SOPs ensuing regulatory compliance, efficiency, and safety. - Assesses, plans, and evaluates delivery of imaging services to ensure safe, efficient, and effective operations. Incumbent assists with monitoring and implementing new imaging services to broaden access to care when able to do so safely and when fiscally appropriate. - Incumbent regularly monitors clinic scheduling activities to ensure it is conducted within the radiology standards and guidelines. Monitors clinic utilization, access, and completion of exams. - Develops customer-oriented relationships internally and externally to support high-quality service delivery and an efficient departmental workflow with effective communication and service-oriented relations. - Practices and ensures adherence to hospital safety, infection control, universal precautions, and radiation safety in accordance with guidelines identifying and addressing any educational needs. - Performs full range of supervisory duties including work assignment, staffing and leave requests, performance evaluations, awards, promotions, disciplinary actions, and identification of training needs. - Recruits and evaluates qualifications of potential employees, interviews, selects, hires, and orients new staff. Identifies workload trends and determines staffing needs and projections to meet operational needs. - Represents Imaging for VISN business planning, strategic meetings, service expansion, equipment planning, and policy, projects, or initiatives implementation. - Serves on facility committees as assigned; leads department as Service Line Safety Officer and Patient Experience representative; monitors service line safe patient handling program. - Acts as department federal records management representative and works with liaison to maintain compliance and safeguard data with filing plans, retention, and disposition of records. - Facilitates departmental meetings, both formal and informal. Responsible for effective and compliant radiation safety and MR safety programs in collaboration with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), MR Safety Officer (MRSO) and MRMD. - Manages resources including equipment, supply inventory, space, and other resources; monitors budget and control expenditures. - Participates in the student educational experience within the department and oversees the coordination of student affiliations with area schools. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The incumbent works independently, effectively collaborating with stakeholders when needed to ensure mission and goals of the department are met. Many of the incumbents' responsibilities are self-initiated, such as identifying and correcting issues or improving efficiency and effectiveness of the department. The incumbent has supervisory responsibility for department staff and directly supervises reports from GS-10 through GS-8. - Advises employees of performance requirements and keeps them informed of progress. - Holds corrective meetings regarding inadequate performance or conduct and addresses employee concerns to resolve at the lowest levels. - Ensures compliance with mandatory educational training and competencies Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
