ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>Assigned to the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Service at the Fredericksburg HCC. Performs administrative duties of supervision for GS-9 Mammography and MIT technologists and below staff technologists. Mammography experience is preferred.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties an responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: The main functions of the work are to supervise the technologists to perform routine and specialized radiologic procedures, to maintain and improve the quality of current radiologic procedures, to develop new methods in response to the medical center needs, and to administer the technical areas to provide efficient service and timely accurate results. Responsible for the efficiency and quality of mammography and ultrasonography technical services, for the maintenance of the records required, and for the preparation of reports on technical operations. He/she also has the responsibility for instructing technologist trainees and resident physicians in the theory and practice of mammography and ultrasonography to include quality control. He/she must keep informed on current literature, new procedures, and new technical developments. Reviews studies for technical quality, resolves technical problems, and takes appropriate corrective action. Investigation and correction of technical problems must be prompt and effective to maintain efficient operation. Writes and reviews methods and instructions in the Policy/Procedure Manual. Research and development in this dynamic field require the frequent revision of old methods and the addition of new ones. Has technical oversight for Quality Assurance and Quality Control for the assigned area. He/she assigns responsibility, reviews results, maintains records, and takes corrective action as needed for Quality Assurance and Quality Control for the service. Makes work assignments in the service based on workload, urgency of need, availability of equipment, and level of staff training. Adjustments are frequently required because of emergency requests, unexpected developments or radiation safety emergencies. Qualified to perform a full range of radiologic procedures, when required by personnel shortages or workload backup. Develops techniques for new procedures in mammography and ultrasonography, including literature search, evaluation of procedure options, and determination of cost-effectiveness. Teaches and trains new personnel in both mammography and ultrasonography, reviews technologists in basic physics, and plans and implements staff In-Service Training programs.
