<p>Northern Arizona VA Health Care System is looking for a Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager to join the Nursing PeriOperative Service! The Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in overseeing operations of a nursing unit/patient care area. Fosters team development, ensures compliance with standards of clinical practice, and serves as a key liaison between staff and leadership.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>About the Position: This role combines clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities and is often considered part of the succession plan for future NM positions, providing opportunities to develop management skills and prepare for higher-level leadership. Functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or overseeing direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Demonstrates sound decision-making and judgment and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Self-directed and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvement initiatives. Duties include, but are not limited to: Serving as the first line supervisor of nursing personnel in the patient care area ensuring the head nurse/NM retains VA Handbook 5007 requirements (examples may include but are not limited to supervising the nursing assistants and/or licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/LVNs) in the patient care area or supervising the nursing personnel on evening and/or night shift) Approving schedules and leave for employees under their direct supervision Appraising performance, recommending performance standards, and recommending performance awards for employees under their direct supervision Serving as hiring official during the recruitment process for employees under their direct supervision Recommending proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision In addition, the Supervisory ANM is responsible for assisting the NM with personnel on the unit who they do not directly supervise; expectations may include but are not limited to: Drafting schedules and leave for final approval by the NM Providing input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the NM Assisting with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment Applying clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes; providing feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice Overseeing work assignments and providing reports of contact or assisting with fact findings as needed to provide the NM with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Full-time.
