ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Milwaukee VA Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse - Assistant Nurse Manager for the Surgical Care unit.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Assistant Nurse Manager supports the NM with the operation of their designated unit(s). Provides coverage for other ANMs as needed. Responsible and accountable for the direction and oversight of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and leader. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. The Supervisory ANM is typically responsible for assisting the NM but is not responsible for independently carrying out the expectations of a NM on a routine basis. Exercises the authority to direct work, assign duties, evaluate employee performance, recommend employee awards, approve or deny leave, recall employees to duty, propose discipline, and to adjust their grievances, or to effectively recommend such proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision. In addition, the Supervisory ANM is responsible for assisting the NM with personnel on the unit who they do not directly supervise; expectations may include but are not limited to: Drafting schedules and leave for final approval by the NM Providing input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the NM Assisting with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment Applying clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; providing feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice Overseeing work assignments and providing reports of contact or assisting with fact findings as needed to provide the NM with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions Preferred Experience: Leadership experience Clinic experience MSN Certification VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 0730-1600 Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
