ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The VA New Mexico Healthcare System is seeking a Registered Nurse to serve in the Chief of Staff Service as a Wound Care Registered Nurse. Responsible and accountable for all aspects of the nursing process, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates evidence-based wound care; coordinates patient education and self-management; administers treatments; collaborates with the interdisciplinary team; and provides expert clinical leadership to improve patient outcomes and quality of care.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Serves as the facility's clinical expert in wound, ostomy, continence, and pressure injury management, providing advanced nursing care for patients with complex wound care needs. Coordinates and manages comprehensive wound care services by developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized, evidence-based treatment plans across the continuum of care. Provides expert wound care consultations and collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, rehabilitation staff, and other interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes. Demonstrates clinical leadership by applying advanced critical thinking, sound clinical judgment, and evidence-based practices to complex wound management decisions. Leads interdisciplinary efforts to prevent and reduce hospital-acquired pressure injuries through risk assessment, surveillance, and implementation of prevention strategies. Collects, monitors, analyzes, and reports wound care and pressure injury quality data; collaborates with Quality Management, Patient Safety, and interdisciplinary committees to support performance improvement initiatives Serves as an active member of the Interdisciplinary Pressure Injury Committee (IPIC) and other specialty committees to improve wound care processes and organizational outcomes. Develops, delivers, and evaluates education and competency-based training programs for clinical staff to ensure consistent application of current evidence-based wound care practices. Assists in the evaluation, selection, procurement, and implementation of wound care products, therapies, and supplies to support timely, effective patient care. Collaborates in the development, implementation, revision, and evaluation of wound care policies, procedures, clinical practice guidelines, and standards of care. Maintains accountability for program-level wound care outcomes by evaluating clinical performance measures, identifying improvement opportunities, and implementing sustainable quality initiatives. Functions as an expert clinical resource, mentor, and patient advocate, demonstrating advanced leadership, technical proficiency, and professional expertise in the management of complex wound care cases.
