ABOUT THIS ROLE

<p>The Kansas City VA Healthcare Network is seeking Registered Nurses for the Inpatient Service, (Medical/Surgical). The RN delivers competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and provides oversight for licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants as appropriate to the clinical setting. The nurse also contributes to the development and coordination of nursing education, orientation, and competency activities, and supports quality improvement and outcomes-focused initiatives.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The major duties and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse-4E(Medical/Surgical) include but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care. Focus on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments. Responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. Assists in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. Collaborates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and/or guidelines. Demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for a group of patients. Provides peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement. Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals. Six 12-hour and one 8-hour shift per pay period. Tours include Days/ Nights / Weekends / Holidays and are subject to change based on the needs of the health care system. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
