ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Registered Nurse provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Surgical Clinic Lead, Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. The Surgical Case Manager is responsive to patient and provider requests and ensures customer satisfaction which reflects an understanding of surgical procedures. They are an integral part of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate appropriate patient assessments, pre- and post- operatively. This includes coordination of anesthesia evaluations, validation of testing as ordered by the surgeon and adjunct providers, transportation assistance, lodging arrangements, identifying potential roadblocks to scheduling patients for procedures and alerting the surgeon and operative staff, assisting patients in planning for discharge/postoperative care, and patient and family education. Patient and family education is focused on overall plan of care and perioperative instructions to include specific individualized physical preparation needed prior to surgery. Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates care based on specific surgical and age components. Provides comprehensive, professional, and personalized preparation of patients prior to surgical and/or medical procedures, to include patients scheduled to receive sedation and anesthesia care in the surgical setting. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Follows procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs. The Surgical Clinic Lead acts as the patient advocate and answers patient inquiries and resolves patient concerns. Collaborates with specialty clinic coordinators, Operating Room (OR) staff, anesthesia providers, and adjunct providers as needed to ensure complete preparation for the surgical patient. Responsible for maintaining metrics related to clinic performance goals and objectives and participates in continuous quality improvement projects. Makes caring for the Veteran their priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work. Practices within the guidelines of the policies, standard operating procedures (SOP), and standards of care relative to the continuity of care for surgical candidates. Validates understanding of the rationale for care processes and decisions. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities while displaying competence in practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills. Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Preferred Experience: - BSN or MSN -Charge Nurse experience -OR/Surgical Clinic experience Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:00am-3:30pm. Tour subject to change depending on the needs of facility.
