ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>Surgery Outpatient Clinic Float/Certified Wound and Ostomy Nurse (CWON) Registered Nurse will provide competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed practical nurses/nursing assistants, along with the delivery of direct/indirect patient centered care that is related to patients and products associated with wound and ostomy.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. RN is responsible to the Surgical/Specialty Care Outpatient Clinic Nurse Manager and maintains collaborative relationships across all clinical service lines, VA network and community. Duties of the Surgery Outpatient Clinic Float/Certified Wound and Ostomy Nurse (CWON) Registered Nurse include, but are not limited to: Assist in directing the provision of inpatient and outpatient nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others for all patient care areas. Evaluate practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence; partnering with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes while supporting colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture. Establishes and maintains a Wound and Ostomy Clinic, adhering to the primary care guidelines of Advanced Clinic Access. Interfaces with the patients, family, and members of the Interdisciplinary team to provide safe, effective, and efficient care coordination. Coordinates and maintains consultative services in relation to Wound and Ostomy issues for the Medical Center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Participates in the selection and recommendations of products related to wounds and ostomies. Adheres to the specific Practice Protocol as approved by the Medical Center. Participates in the training of Medical Center disciplines in the care and management of wounds and ostomies. Provides wound and ostomy expertise and leadership to the Pressure Ulcer Management and Prevention Committee. Floating to other Surgery Specialty clinics as assigned Position requires CWON that meets the accreditation standards of the Medical Center, applicants without current CWON, must obtain within 6 months of hire.
