<p>The Registered Nurse, Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in overseeing operations of a nursing unit/patient care area. Fosters team development, ensures compliance with standards of clinical practices and services as a key liaison between staff and leadership. This role combines clinical knowledge with leadership responsibilities and is often considered part of the succession plan for future Nurse Manager positions.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major Duties (To include but not limited to): The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager is typically responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager but is not responsible for independently carrying out the expectations of the Nurse Manager on a routine basis. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager exercises the authority to direct work, assign duties, evaluate employees performance, recommend employee awards, approve or deny leave, recall employees to duty, propose disciple and adjust their grievances , or to effectively recommend such proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervisor. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager serve as the first line supervisor of nursing personnel in the patient care area ensuring the head nurse/Nurse Manager retains VA Handbook 5007 requirements (examples my include but are not limited to supervising the nursing assistants and /or license practical/vocational nurses (LPN/LVNs) in the patient care area or supervising the nursing personnel on evening and/or night shift). The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager approve schedules and leave for employees under their direct supervision The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager appraise performance, recommending performance standards and recommending performance awards for employees under their direct supervision. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager serves as hiring official during the recruitment process for employees under their direct supervision. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager recommends proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager Is responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager with personnel on the unit who they do not directly supervise; expectations may include but are not limited to: drafting schedules and leave for final approval by the Nurse Manager. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager provides input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the Nurse Manager. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager assist with making recommendations for selections of candidates fo reemployment. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead statt involvement in planning, decision-making and evaluating outcomes; providing feedback to the Nurse Manager who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager oversees work assignments and provide reports of contact or assisting with fact findings as needed to provide the Nurse Manager with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions. The Registered Nurse Supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager engages in professional organizations to enhanced leadership and career growth.
