ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Domiciliary RN for the Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP) provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with substance use disorder and/or mental health conditions. They will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major Duties include but not limited to: 1. Utilizes interventions that maximize health capabilities (i.e., safely administers medications, utilizes techniques for managing Veteran behavior, and provides appropriate activities to enhance the veteran's psycho-social and physical functioning). 2. Applies principles of Mental Health / Substance Use Disorders/ Psychosocial Rehabilitation nursing in an interdisciplinary program. 3. Models person centered recovery interventions. 4. Assess and document the Veteran's ability to participate in a Self-Medication Program (SMP) using criteria based on established local, VISN, and VHA policies. 5. Assess and validate the Veteran and the Veteran's family/support system's knowledge of medications and effects or side effects in order to meet the needs of the Veteran to perform self-medication. 6. Recognize signs of intoxication and withdrawal, assess suicidal ideation, provide crisis interventions, and complete appropriate assessments, documentation, and implement appropriate interventions. 7. Demonstrates the ability to assess, plan, intervene, evaluate, and document the process of the Veteran's substance use disorder into their recovery plan. 8. Identifies patterns of variance from the treatment plan and implements strategies for resolution. 9. Advocates on behalf of patients and families to facilitate optimum healthcare. 10. Actively involves the Veteran and Veteran's family/support systems in participation of Substance Use Disorder/ Mental Health Recovery plan. 11. Identifies and takes action to remove barriers that impede the Veteran/Veteran's family/support system to support the Veteran's recovery. 12. Establishes relationships with community resources/stakeholders that support Veterans and their families/support systems in their community. 13. Develops and conducts therapeutic and educational groups related to RRTP activities. 14. Actively participates in the development of policies and procedures related to the RRTP program. 15. Actively participates in RRTP screening processes as indicated. 16. Maintain therapeutic boundaries between staff and Veterans. 17. Deliver compassionate, quality care by ensuring interactions with all clinical disciplines are focused on establishing and maintaining healthy relationships. 18. Must be organized and responsive to Veteran needs, prioritizing appropriately. 19. Assist with CVT, VVC, or other technology delivery systems to ensure Veterans have access to care needs while following any procedures and documentation needs related to this service. 20. Administer medications, monitor for side effects, and document follow-ups as outlined by policies and procedures. 21. Works closely in collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary team to positively influence patient outcomes.
