ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Registered Nurse (RN) is a proficient clinician who uses strong critical-thinking and decision-making skills to manage complex care. They enhance practice through effective teamwork and problem-solving, and provide leadership by planning long-term goals that guide unit operations and resource use. They consistently deliver and improve holistic care aligned with VA standards.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Registered Nurse delivers care and provides counseling aimed at promoting health, preventing illness, and supporting recovery. Using the nursing process, the nurse gathers information, assesses patient needs, exercises clinical judgment, and evaluates patient responses to actual or potential health problems. Their work includes identifying health issues, teaching and counseling patients, delivering supportive or restorative care, and carrying out medical treatments and medication orders from authorized providers. The nurse's primary responsibility is always to the patient, whether that is an individual, family, group, or community. Duties include but not limited to the following: Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care. Delivers safe care to assigned patients, while developing technical competencies. Safely and effectively uses patient care equipment. Implements physician's/provider's orders in a timely and complete manner. Completes initial assessment of patient condition and response to treatment and initiates follow-up as needed. Evaluates and documents patient response to interventions and progress towards attainment of goals and expected outcomes.
