<p>Registered Nurse- Specialty Care Outpatient (Neurology Stroke) located at the Central VA Healthcare Center in Richmond, Virginia.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties: Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based specialty care to patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the clinic setting. This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. This nurse integrates specialty care knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex outpatient situations. Validates understanding of the rationale for specialty care processes and decisions. The nurse demonstrates competence in specialty care practices and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills. Review and track all inpatient consults for evidence of stroke. Respond to stroke alerts to provide assistance and education. Works in an interdisciplinary team developing , implementing and evaluating standards of care and stroke protocol. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the specialty care program or service level. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents). Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
