ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>At the Sioux Falls Veterans Affairs Health Care System, provide compassionate Community Living Center nursing care that supports Veterans through transitions, education, self-management, safety, and improved outcomes.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until August 17, 2026. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. All referred applicants receive a final notification once a selection decision has been made. There is no need to reapply if not originally selected. The CLC Registered Nurse (RN) - Community Living Center delivers comprehensive nursing care to Veterans in the Rehab and Extended Care (REC) setting, applying the full nursing process under close supervision. This position coordinates care across the continuum, supports patient transitions, and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, Veteran-centered outcomes while contributing to quality improvement. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates all care based on age-specific components, considering the individual's age, life stages, state of health, race, culture, values, and previous experiences Assumes responsibility for coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, including patient and family education and supporting patient self-management after discharge Works with the care team to sign off and ensure completion of all orders written for their assignment and that of their Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) teammates Administers medications and performs procedures per established policies and guidelines, including daily and weekly skin assessments and monitoring and documenting pain and pain interventions Checks crash carts for readiness and responds to codes as part of the code team as needed Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and participates in unit/program level quality improvement activities Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients, engaging patients, families, and caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgment or discrimination Demonstrates positive, effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers Participates in unit-based educational activities, continuing education requirements, and maintains competency for personal and professional growth Contributes to facility accreditation readiness for all regulatory or survey bodies and articulates standards of care, policies, and performance improvement data as needed VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Day & Night shifts available. Intermittent registered nurse for this position is expected to work at least two shifts per pay period and work with management to fill the needs of the floor in relation to staffing. Days - 7:15am - 7:45pm, 1 day 7:15am - 3:45pm or 11:15am - 7:45pm. Nights - 7:30pm - 7:30am, 1 day 7:30pm - 3:30am or 11:30pm - 7:30am.
