ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>John J. Pershing VAMC is seeking a Registered Nurse - Quality Nurse Consultant (Patient Safety Manager) to serve as an advanced clinical leader overseeing the coordination, evaluation, and improvement of the medical center's Patient Safety Program.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Registered Nurse - Quality Nurse Consultant (Patient Safety Manager) is accountable for achieving documented program and service-level outcomes across the Medical Center and all off-site locations. They manage activities within their assigned program area, collect and analyze data, monitor staff compliance with relevant policies and standards, and prepare reports that highlight trends. The Consultant supports all services by contributing to the planning, design, integration, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive patient safety program. They also serve on multiple facility councils, committees, and workgroups. This role requires effective leadership, strategic planning, strong communication skills, and innovative approaches to advancing patient safety and healthcare program performance. The Consultant works closely with leadership and staff to sustain a culture of safety and model High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles. Their responsibilities support the delivery of high-quality, safe patient care within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), using specialized expertise to promote a systems-based approach to healthcare delivery. The Consultant provides essential guidance to facility leadership in planning, organizing, developing, directing, and evaluating the patient safety program. The Registered Nurse - Quality Nurse Consultant (Patient Safety Manager) collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, leaders, and staff to facilitate process improvement initiatives, support change management efforts, and ensure alignment with performance standards. As a subject matter expert in patient safety and quality metrics, they offer strategic guidance, consultation, and education on systems redesign, clinical and operational efficiencies, and organizational development. The Consultant coordinates improvement projects, conducts assessments to identify strengths and opportunities, and works collaboratively to develop innovative strategies for resource allocation, workflow optimization, and enhancing the overall quality and safety of services. The Quality Nurse Consultant (Patient Safety Manager) reviews information related to unexpected events associated with healthcare delivery, maintains a psychologically safe environment for staff to report concerns regarding patient care delivery, and responds to actual/potential events through facilitation of an analysis of an event including a Root Cause Analysis (when appropriate). Provides oversight to ensure that key program elements including the episodic healthcare failure modes and effects analysis (HFMEA) and other system reviews are completed as recommended by program office and facility leadership. Preferred Experience: Master's degree combined with five years of comprehensive experience as a Registered Nurse.
