ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This position is eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Provides competent, evidence-based nursing care to acutely ill, moderately stable patients with elevated risk for instability. Delivers high-intensity care and maintains strong clinical vigilance. Oversees and collaborates with licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants as appropriate. Applies and integrates clinical knowledge, skills, abilities, judgment, and critical thinking in managing complex patient situations. Validates understanding of care processes and the rationale behind clinical decisions. Demonstrates a developing to advanced knowledge of the nursing process, depending on grade level. Participates in nursing education, orientation, competency development, and quality improvement activities. Manages competing priorities effectively and practices deliberate planning and sound decision-making. Engages in evidence-based practice by questioning clinical methods and contributing to practice improvements. Develops and applies leadership skills, ranging from basic leadership experiences (Nurse I) to advanced leadership and mentorship (Nurse III). Collaborates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of unit or organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines. Provides constructive feedback to peers and supports colleagues through knowledge sharing and professional guidance. Fosters a safe, supportive environment that promotes learning and professional development. Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes at the individual, group, population, or program level, with increasing scope for higher grades. Demonstrates accountability for broad and complex outcomes at the service or program level (Nurse III). Integrates theoretical concepts, advanced critical thinking, and expert technical skills into practice at the highest performance level. Performs additional responsibilities as needed to support patient care and unit operations.
