ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Pre-Anesthesia Registered Nurse (RN) is responsive to patient and provider requests and ensures customer satisfaction which reflects an understanding of surgical procedures.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Pre-Anesthesia Testing, Registered Nurse, duties include, but are not limited to the following: Delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned surgical patients while developing technical skills. Assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates care based on specific surgical components. Provides comprehensive, professional, and personalized preparation of patients prior to surgical and/or medical procedures, to include patients scheduled to receive sedation and anesthesia care in the surgical setting. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Follows procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Reviews patients medical history, ensuring preoperative documentation is completed timely, reviews patient medication appropriateness for surgery. Collaborates with the Pre-Anesthesia Testing clinic nurse practitioner and surgical scheduler to coordinate dates, consents, and post-operative disposition. Works to coordinate anesthesia evaluations, validation of testing as ordered by the surgeon and adjunct providers, transportation assistance, lodging arrangements, identifying potential roadblocks to scheduling patients for procedures and alerting the surgeon and operative staff, assisting patients in planning for discharge care, and patient and family education. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
