ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when delegating task that affect direct patient care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Serves a vital, behind-the-scenes role to ensure smooth coordination and case flow between the Operating Room (OR) and the Sterile Processing Department (SPD).</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when delegating task that affect direct patient care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Serves a vital, behind-the-scenes role to ensure smooth coordination and case flow between the Operating Room (OR), the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), and logistics. Follows procedures per established policies and guidelines, influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team, and executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care. The duties include but are not limited to: The Perioperative Program Coordinator is a registered nurse who provides leadership and coordination across the OR, Sterile Processing, Logistics, Prosthetics, Engineering, and other departments to ensure smooth surgical operations. The role oversees procurement and management of surgical supplies, equipment, and instrumentation; develops and updates protocols for new products; manages vendor interactions and loaner items; and ensures stock levels, implants, and case carts are accurate and properly maintained. . The Coordinator works closely with the OR Scheduler, Implant Coordinator, and Medical Instrument Technicians (MITs), and is cross trained to support scheduling and implant coordination functions as needed. . The Coordinator collaborates with SPS and Logistics staff to process supply requests, maintain appropriate par levels on supply carts, and evaluate instrumentation sets to meet service needs, providing written updates for any changes. The Coordinator has case cart knowledge and works with OR staff to ensure case carts are accurate. The Coordinator facilitates communication between departments, aligns workflows, and troubleshoots issues related to surgical supplies, instrumentation, equipment availability, and case preparation. Coordinator plays a key role in preventing delays, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and maintaining consistent readiness of surgical suites through proactive planning and problem-solving.
