ABOUT THIS ROLE

<p>The Outpatient Mental Health Registered Nurse promotes personal growth and development of psychiatric-mental health nursing practice. The RN gains awareness of the principles and goals of outpatient mental health treatment by understanding practices related to patient-centered care, recovery-oriented principles, tele-mental health, community based care, and self-awareness related to caring for patients living with mental health conditions.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties include but are not limited to: Providing care coordination Providing evidenced based assessments Providing triage mental health status and medication concerns Administering medication and/or treatments Using de-escalation techniques, suicide prevention measures, safety planning, health and wellness promotion, and intervention services for patients enrolled in the Mental Health programs. Adhering to standards of practice and safe technique in preparation and administration of medication and treatments. Observing patients for adverse effects from medication and/or treatment and reporting appropriately. Providing holistic care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, patient populations include Veterans who present with the full range of DSM-V mental disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders and substance use disorders. Patients may present with co-morbid medical conditions, functional decline and unstable living conditions. Attending and participating in Mental Health interdisciplinary team huddles and meetings Practicing de-escalation techniques, utilizing recovery-oriented language, and providing Veterans, their family members, and/or significant others with education regarding their illness, medications, and treatment plan. Liaising with Inpatient Mental Health Units to facilitate continuity of care, and responding to psychiatric and medical emergencies as directed. Documenting nursing triage assessments, risk screens, clinical reminders, and patient plan of care in accordance with facility policy. Maintaining professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Telework: Not authorized. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Note: In order to grant credit towards an appointment based on foreign nursing education higher than the associate degree level, formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency accepted by VA such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD) must be obtained.
