ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>Delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Registered Nurse - Operating Room duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for the clinical results of nursing interventions provided to patients undergoing surgical/invasive procedures. The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. Applies principle and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills. Coordinate, administer, and appraise collaborative treatment plans across all medical disciplines during the surgical timeline. Prioritize the patient's needs while acknowledging the collaborative impact of the entire care team. Perform proficiently in both the circulator and scrub role within the OR and to be competent in all surgical specialties served. Maintain knowledge of current Association of peri-Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Directives, and service level standard operating procedures (SOPs). Manage the integrity of the sterile field and ensure all equipment is handled safely and effectively. Protect the patient from injuries caused by chemical, electrical, mechanical, thermal sources, and extraneous objects. Participate in the "Time Out" process to ensure accuracy of correct site and side; confirming critical details and aligning the entire team to the plan. Follow implant and tissue/tissue-based product documentation, policy, and procedures. Perform counting procedures to safeguard the patient from unintended retained surgical items. Manage the patient's specimens in the appropriate manner; administers medications safely and correctly, performs interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels, and performs interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection. Responsible for ensuring comprehensive documentation of all care provided during the perioperative experience is timely, complete, and accurate in the electronic health record. Responsible for knowing what reusable instruments, equipment, medical devices, or supplies are in use in the clinical area. Procure, comprehend, and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all reusable medical equipment (RME) in use in the clinical area and consults Sterile Processing and/or Infection Control as needed. Mandatory to be on call during off tours hours to provide patient care for emergency procedures. Preferred Experience: Experience functioning in complex surgical cases including but not limited to General Surgery, GYN, Orthopedics, Urology, Ophthalmology, and GI.
