<p>The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. Selectee serves as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>NOTE: This position is open ONLY TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES of the Baltimore, MD VAMC. The Nurse Manager provides leadership, oversight, and operational coordination for the CareView monitoring program, the Nursing Officers of the Day (NODs), and the Care Coordination & Integrated Case Management (CC-ICM) team. This role ensures delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care by managing clinical operations, supervising nursing and administrative staff, and promoting adherence to organizational policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based practices. The Nurse Manager is responsible for resource planning, staffing, and workflow design; monitoring care quality and patient safety metrics; and leading continuous improvement initiatives across all assigned programs. The incumbent collaborates closely with interdisciplinary partners, supports effective communication across inpatient and outpatient settings, and fosters a culture of accountability, professional development, and excellence in nursing practice. This position plays a key role in supporting organizational readiness, patient throughput, and coordinated care across the continuum. Nurse Manager duties include, but are not limited to: Enhancing care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. Engaging in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. Actively equips staff with tools for competent care and promotes an environment of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Promotes alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable patient care. He/she ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Promotes a workplace positively to achieve the organization's vision and mission. The NM maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP). Additional duties as assigned.
