ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Nurse Educator is accountable for multiple facets of education, training and professional & organizational development within the larger strategy of promoting a learning culture across the system. He/She is responsible for development and coordination of comprehensive interprofessional education to promote quality education and competency management programs that include problem prone, low volume and high risk knowledge and skills required based on nursing care area's scope of service.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major duties: Maintains professional relationships with colleagues in nursing education department, Nursing faculty and other personnel throughout the organization. Works closely with nursing education colleagues in East Bay, and Sacramento Valley to develop, standardize and administer Nursing Education programs throughout the organization and is responsible to have a working knowledge of all active programs and the flexibility to travel to any NCHCS site to deliver education and training to Nursing Personnel for all programs offered. Takes responsibility for leadership in the administration and operationalization of programs that include, but are not limited to: VA-STEP ( VA Student Trainee Experience program), Scholarship programs, Academic affiliation programs, transition to practice, New Nurse employee orientation, facilitation of nursing stude4nt and nurse resident development/advancement/placement in their programs, facilitation of the preceptor course, knowledge of and counseling regarding the scholarship program benefits, competency verification, administration of simulation training scenarios and care of equipment Works closely with the Nurse Managers and staff on units/clinics assigned Makes rounds and maintains high visibility on units/areas assigned, responding to requests of the Nurse Managers and staff. Follows Nurse Managers tracking towards completion of assigned competencies and works consistently with Nurse Managers to stay on track. Embodies the highest level of professionalism, integrity and staff/veteran confidentiality in all interactions. Works in collaboration with each Nurse Manager and his/her staff to review competency folders for currency and completeness. Assists or covers in the absence of other Clinical Nurse Educators when specifically requested. Consistently advises supervisors of any deviations from or issues arising in any of his/her assigned areas. Assumes patient care load when needed to ensure full operational needs of units and organization, such as being cross-trained during emergency surge operations. Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement.<h3>Education</h3>Nursing education must be from a school of professional nursing accredited by one of the following accrediting organizations at the time the program was completed by the applicant: (a) The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326. The ACEN accredits all levels of nursing programs, including clinical doctorate, masters/post-master's certificate, baccalaureate, associate and diploma nursing education programs. (NOTE: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission/NLNAC changed its name to ACEN in May 2013 ACEN's website may be utilized to verify accredited programs using automated inquiry processes; however, for verification of any nursing program's accreditation prior to 1998, an automated inquiry cannot be used and ACEN must be contacted directly via their email contact information on the ACEN website to verify.); OR (b) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), 655 K Street, NW, Suite 7, Washington, DC 20001. The CCNE is an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and accredits nursing education programs at the bachelor and master's level. In rare instances, graduates of nursing education programs recognized by the Department of Education as an accredited Postsecondary Institution or Program at the time of graduation may be considered.
