<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The Registered Nurse (RN) - Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) executes position responsibilities to improve patient and organizational outcomes. The MHICM RN executes their position duties by providing patient-centered and recovery-oriented care and maintaining self-awareness while caring for patients living with mental health conditions. The MHICM program provides clinical community-based case management services to Veterans with severe mental illness, severe functional impairment, and high inpatient mental health unit utilization, in coordination with existing community and Veteran Affairs (VA) services. The MHICM RN gains awareness of the principles and goals of outpatient mental health treatment by understanding practices related to patient-centered care, recovery-oriented principles, telemental health, community-based care, and self-awareness related to caring for patients living with mental health conditions. The MHICM RN facilitates care coordination, linking with the inpatient mental health units to facilitate continuity of care attends and participates in mental health interdisciplinary team huddles and meetings, uses therapeutic communication techniques, practices de-escalation techniques, utilizes recovery-oriented language, and provides Veterans, their family members, and/or significant others with education regarding their illness, medications, and treatment plan. The MHICM RN clinically provides outpatient, community-based mental health services for a subgroup of Veterans with severe mental illness; including but not limited to transportation, medication management, in home/community consultation and responds to psychiatric and medical emergencies as directed. The MHICM RN documents nursing triage assessments, risk screens, clinical reminders, and patient plan of care in accordance with facility policy. The MHICM RN maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interests of the patient. The MHICM RN reports and assists and/or directs safety concern resolution and collaborates with program leadership to help improve patient and program outcomes; and directs team response to psychiatric and medical emergencies. The MHICM RN executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex mental health client care. Provides peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement. Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality mental health nursing care. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals. The MHICM RN collaborates and supports mental health nursing along with other disciplines.
