ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This Registered Nurse position is located in the Inpatient Mental Health (4A) unit for Nursing Service at the Providence location. This positions is permanent intermittent position.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties include but are not limited to: Anticipate and implement preventive patient care measures. Responsible for direct patient care within the behavioral health inpatient unit and facilitates the appropriate plan of care. Manage patient care promoting positive patient outcomes including the areas of addiction, chemical dependency, and withdrawal to include; areas of medical and psychiatric emergencies, detox (withdrawal symptoms) and patient safety. Utilize evidenced based assessment scales such as the Clinical Institute Withdrawal of Alcohol Scale, Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale with appropriate intervention. Perform assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of health care needs and care of veterans in their care. Demonstrate knowledge of therapeutic factors, dynamics of group work to facilitate or co-facilitate groups, participating or conduct patient community groups and provide patient education as needed. Identify and report all unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel to ensure a safe environment for all patients, medical center personnel, and visitors. Assess Veterans risk for suicide and demonstrates knowledge of suicide precautions as well as using evidence-based assessment tools such as the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale. Determine the need for restraint or seclusion treatment modalities if patient is in danger to self or others. Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment. Assure that appropriate documentation reflects assessment of patient needs, interdisciplinary treatment plans, clinical interventions, and evaluation of patients' responses to treatments. Demonstrates competency in assessing and caring for the specialized needs of veterans of special populations such as but not limited to the female veteran, the geriatric patient, and all veterans with mental health needs. This position is covered by a special rate.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
