ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>At VA Iowa City Health Care System, the Informaticist Registered Nurse (RN) elevates Veteran care by leading the nursing process and optimizing the electronic health record (EHR). You will collaborate across teams to improve safety, experience, and outcomes-using evidence, education, and informatics to make care more efficient and compassionate.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process and influences outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrates core informatics functions, including content management, application support, health information technology system optimization, enterprise data management, business architecture management, partnership management, requirements management, and change management. Exercises leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of hardware and software applications integrated with the electronic health record (EHR) and associated programs/applications. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members and program and service leaders at the facility and network, and establishes and maintains effective relationships with all levels of Veterans Affairs (VA) staff nationwide. Assists in directing the provision of education, orientation, competencies, and provides quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Synthesizes available data, information, and knowledge to identify patterns and variances, and develops recommendations and strategies to address and resolve complex issues and problems. Supports initiatives to improve the Veteran experience, including care coordination, timeliness to resolve issues, negative trends, or environment of care concerns, and demonstrates leadership in patient advocacy protecting health, safety, and rights. Communicates and collaborates as an effective leader of the interprofessional team; educates colleagues and/or students and serves as a preceptor, teacher, and advisor for orienting staff. Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policy; follows access controls and reports information security and privacy incidents or violations immediately. Ensures accreditation readiness regarding Joint Commission (TJC), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), VA surveyors, and Laboratory College of American Pathologists (CAP); maintains safety and infection control standards and participates in performance improvement.
