ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) within Gastrointestinal Specialty, located at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, MO delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy procedures including both inpatients and outpatients. Assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties include, but are not limited to: Provides conscious sedation. Provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management May function in several roles to include, pre-procedure assessments, post procedural recovery, and assisting physicians during procedures Assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment. Engages patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination. Provides competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses and health/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the procedural setting Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of patient care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Collaborates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and/or guidelines.
