Registered Nurse- Emergency Department

ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Emergency Department Registered Nurse works with all services within the medical center and beyond the walls of the facility including all VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), patients from any VA facility within the nation, and with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Emergency Preparedness operations via the Metro Compact within the community and greater Minnesota. The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day/365 days a year.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Anticipates and recognizes medical/surgical/psychiatric emergencies and initiates or leads others to implement appropriate and timely actions. Uses advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes. Interpretation of Continuous Telemetry monitored patients Insertion and/ or care of urinary drainage devices and care (condom catheters, intermittent catheters, foley catheters, suprapubic catheters, nephrostomy tubes) Competency in High Risk medications, including vasopressors, paralytic, thrombolytic therapies Advanced airway management, Hemodynamic monitoring, Emergency response Advanced Vascular Access Care and maintenance Facilitation of Homecare referrals and community recommendations to support ongoing veteran needs Works collaboratively with all levels of health care professionals and support staff to facilitate positive patient care outcomes Promotes evidence-based best practices and nurse sensitive indicators (including but not limited to Falls Prevention, Hospital Associated infection Prevention, Medication error prevention, Safe Patient handling, and skin safety.
